Welcome!
"Within one human lifetime, the prairies have passed from wilderness to become the most altered habitat in this country and one of the most disturbed, ecologically simplified and over-exploited regions in the world. The essence of what we risk losing when the grasslands are destroyed is not a species here or a species there, but a quality of life, the largeness and wilderness that made this country remarkable." ~Adrian Forsyth
Welcome to the Prairie Nut! This website is your unofficial guide to the Manitoba Tall Grass Prairie Preserve. Its purpose is to provide the public with information about the Preserve and to improve their knowledge about its fauna and flora, management techniques, programs, and events. The Prairie Nut is "unofficial" because it is created by me, a fan of the Preserve, instead of the staff of the Preserve itself. However, the staff have been kind enough to provide me with plenty of information to use on this website. It is my hope that this website will make more people aware of this precious ecosystem that's been right under our noses all along.
